Camping Near Yosemite During Fall or Winter
As the kids return to school, the heat begins to subside making way for crisp autumn air, and it’s back to the grind for mom and dad. Between carpool lines, parent-teacher meetings, and towing kids back and forth to and from extracurricular activities, it’s easy to succumb to the end of summer blues. Luckily, there’s no better cure for the daily grind than planning your next big Yosemite adventure!
Give yourself something to look forward to by setting your sites on a fall or winter camping trip. Even if you can only camp for the weekend, there’s something about the clean mountain air that refreshes one’s spirit and provides a much-needed energy boost.
If you plan on tent camping in Yosemite during the off-season, you’ll want to check the weather beforehand. Typically, conditions allow for tent camping from May until September. After that, it may get a little nippy at night!
Both Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park are absolutely gorgeous this time of year. Rent a cabin for a cozy fall or winter camping trip with all the comfort (and warmth!) of home. Spend the day relieving tension on the hiking trails, fishing on Bass Lake, horseback riding through the valley, or skiing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Then, after a nice long hot shower, head to the adult’s lodge to snuggle up with your favorite book by the fireplace.
During the fall and winter season, the scene at Outdoorsy Yosemite is typically peaceful and quiet with most guests being long-term campers commonly referred to as “snowbirds.” Snowbirds are fun, fabulous, and mostly retired folks who flee to California to escape harsh winters up north. There is a terrific feeling of community when the Snowbirds are in town. The Resort always hosts family-friendly festivities this time of year and everyone and their dog shows up for a good time. Your kids will love it!
