Are you planning to travel with small children to Bass Lake, CA in the near future? Do you feel like you have so much on your plate that you just don’t have the time to cook extravagant meals, but still find yourself craving something that feels fancier than a PBJ sandwich? At Outdoorsy Yosemite meals can be made in the RV kitchen, inside your cabin, or on the grill. Try out some of these family friendly recipes that are quick and easy to make when traveling!
Everybody needs a little fuel to start the day, especially after a day full of big adventures while camping at Bass Lake. Try these quick meals that the kids are sure to love.
Campfire Cinnamon Rolls – Set the BBQ grill to 350 degrees. Pop open a roll of pre-made cinnamon rolls and stick them on a skewer (rolls should be thawed but still cold). Roast them over the grill for 5 minutes on each the top, bottom, and sides. Top with your icing or cream cheese of choice.
Omelettes in a Bag – Crack open two eggs into a Ziploc bag. Then, add ingredients of your choice (recommended: tomatoes, cheese, bacon, sausage, etc.), seal the bag and shake it around to scramble it up! Place into boiling water for about 15 minutes, or 7 minutes per egg. Dump the finished product on a plate and enjoy!
These no-heat lunches will be perfect for a break in the middle of the day (or in the middle of Bass Lake) when you may not be home to cook with a grill!
BLT Pasta Salad – Half pasta, half salad! Mix together some sundried tomato slices, cooked pasta, bacon, and lettuce. Add a dressing of your choice, we recommend Italian. This dish is healthier than pasta but doesn’t feel like a full salad (in case of picky kids)!
Burrito Bowl – Mix together black beans, corn, diced tomatoes, and rice. Squeeze some fresh lime juice and top with a little salsa. Optionally, add in some guacamole or lettuce! This will take less than 5 minutes to prep and can be purchased mostly in cans or pre-made.
These dinner recipes with less than five ingredients will fit in nicely with a busy camping schedule!
Pizza Stuffed Crescent Rolls – Heat the BBQ grill or oven to 350 degrees. Lay out crescent triangles on a pan and sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the triangle. Top with pepperoni or substitute for a topping of your choice. Roll up and bake for 11-14 minutes, then enjoy!
Turkey Panini with Pesto – Gather your four ingredients; pesto sauce, turkey, cheese of your choice, and ciabatta rolls. Spread pesto across the rolls and top with cheese and turkey. Cook on a medium heated grill until the bread toasts and the cheese melts! You can weigh the panini down with a weighted press, or any heavy object available.
We had to throw in this bonus dessert recipe! You will want to make it over and over!
S’mores Banana Boats – Cut one long slit down the side of an unpeeled banana. Spread open and sprinkle in chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, and marshmallows. Wrap the stuffed banana in foil (the banana should still be in the peel to keep it all together). Grill for a few minutes in order for the chocolate and marshmallows to melt. Unwrap and scoop out the gooey goodness!
