Way of the Mono Trail
.5 Mile – Out & Back – 141 FT Elevation Gain
The Way of the Mono Trail is an easy and scenic hike for all skill levels. The short trek is accessible year-round and includes a lookout for hikers to view Bass Lake from atop a hill. The trail is marked by a series of informational signs describing the Mono people and how they lived. There are also a handful of offshoots from the main trail to extend the hike if desired. Leashed dogs are permitted.
Tips for hiking Way of the Mono Trail:
• This trail is easily visible from the road. If you are not sure you’ve found it, keep driving! The trailhead has a parking lot with a large sign that says Way of the Mono Trail.
• The uphill climb at the start of the trail can be slightly challenging for small children and the elderly.
• Loop versus going out and back -> Continue past the last sign (the one about waiting for the men to get back from their hunt), then take a wide loop down to your left. The continuation trail will come to a junction. Turn left to continue back to the parking lot.
Willow Cove Trail
.5 to .9 Mile – Out and Back – 42 to 72 FT Elevation Gain
The Willow Cove Trail has two potential entry points. The first trailhead is located on Road 274 just outside of Bass Lake. The .9-mile hike has 72 FT elevation gain from start to finish. The second entry point is within Outdoorsy Yosemite RV Park and Resort. Guests of the campground can enjoy an easy .5-mile hike with 42 FT elevation gain beginning at the property and leading to Bass Lake. The easy hike has an abundance of wildflowers, butterflies, and provides an excellent opportunity for birdwatching. Leashed dogs are permitted.
Tips for Hiking Willow Cove Trail:
• The trailhead is off Road 274 and has ample parking.
• There are no restrooms at this trail, so plan accordingly.
• Bring your swimsuit for a refreshing dip in Bass Lake.
Angel Falls via Willow Creek
3.1 Mile – Loop – 606 FT Elevation Gain
Angel Falls via Willow Creek is a heavily trafficked loop trail located near Bass Lake in California. This trek features a waterfall and is a popular spot for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching. The best months to use the trail are from May until October. Dogs are allowed on a leash. There are two trailheads, one on the west side of the creek and one on the east. To avoid a potentially dangerous creek crossing on your way to Devil’s Slide, cross the bridge and begin your hike at the east side trailhead. The two main attractions to Willow Creek trail are Angel Falls and Devil’s Slide.
Tips for hiking Angel Falls via Willow Creek:
• May be dangerous for small children.
• The rocks in this area are extremely slippery, so wear appropriate shoes and be careful.
• The parking lot tends to have ruts, so you might want to think twice about taking a low-clearance vehicle.
• Bring your swimsuit for a dip in the waterfalls.
