Everything Starts Here.
South East Entrance 18 mi (~30 min) + 60 min to Valley floor · Bass Lake Marina 8 min on foot · Pines Village 8 min — pizza + cold beer.
Everything to See and Do
Boating & Paddling
Bring your own boat, kayak, or paddleboard — or rent one at the marina, an 8-minute walk from camp. The water warms up nicely in summer (rare for a mountain lake), so jump in for a swim. Guest discounts available — ask at check-in.
Bass Lake Fishing
The fish are biting. Cast for the bass that gave the lake its name, or hook catfish, rainbow trout, and kokanee salmon. Pick up a fishing license at the local market on your way out.
Hiking & Trails
A trail from the property leads to a hidden cove on Bass Lake — a swimming spot most visitors never find. Beyond it, the Bass Lake area is a hiker's paradise: most trails are dog-friendly, and many reward you with waterfalls and wide lake views.
Golfing
Don't forget the clubs. Two 9-hole courses — River Creek and Yosemite Lakes Park — are a short drive from camp.
Mountain Biking
From easy cruisers to expert descents, the nearby trail network keeps riders moving. Ride an e-bike? There are trails for that, too.
Recreation at Camp
Basketball court, two off-leash dog parks, seasonal pool, community fire pits, and a full clubhouse game room. You don't always have to leave camp to have a great day.
Day Trips from Basecamp
Outdoorsy Yosemite sits at the intersection of two of California's most iconic destinations. Here's what's close.
~18 mi / ~30 min
Yosemite National Park
~18 mi / ~30 min to the South East Entrance (Wawona Rd). From the gate: Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias (minutes), Yosemite Valley floor (additional ~60 min winding road). Glacier Point and Badger Pass accessible via Wawona Road. Plan for a full day when heading to the Valley.
Pro tip: arrive before 9am to beat traffic
8-min walk
Bass Lake Marina
8 minute walk from camp. Rent fishing boats, kayaks, paddleboards, and jet skis at the marina. The Pines Village is an 8-minute walk — pizza, a restaurant, a market, and a lakeside bar. Our hiking trail leads to a private cove that most marina visitors never reach.
Family-friendly, quiet end of the lake
8-min walk
The Pines Village
An 8-minute walk from camp. Pizza, a full-service restaurant, a grocery market, and a lakeside bar. Skip driving to Oakhurst for dinner and walk there instead.
Walk, don't drive
15–20 min south
Oakhurst
15–20 minutes south on Highway 41. Full grocery stores, pharmacies, gas, restaurants, and a good staging point for early-morning Yosemite entry.

On Property
The Hidden Cove Trail
A hiking trail that starts at the property and leads to a private swimming cove on Bass Lake — a spot most marina visitors never find. Short walk, big payoff. Ask at the front desk for the trailhead location before you head out.

Short drive
Sugar Pine Railroad
The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad runs a historic logger steam train through the Sierra pines near the South East Entrance — a slow, scenic ride kids and grandparents love alike.
A perfect half-day outing
What's New at the Park This Year
2026 brings a few significant changes inside the park — here's what guests should know before planning a day trip.
No Vehicle Reservations Required
In a major update, Yosemite has removed the timed entry reservation system for 2026. Guests can now drive into the park spontaneously without pre-booking a peak-hour pass.
Fee-Free Days — Memorial Day (May 25) + Independence Day (July 3–5)
The National Park Service waives entrance fees on several days in 2026 — including Memorial Day (May 25) and the Independence Day weekend (July 3–5) — perfect for a planned day trip. Fee-free entry applies to U.S. residents; non-residents still pay standard entrance fees. Confirm the current year's fee-free schedule at nps.gov/yose before you go.
Tioga Road & Glacier Point — Late May Opening
These iconic high-country roads historically aim to open by Memorial Day, granting access to Tuolumne Meadows and the park's most famous overlooks.
Wawona Barn Dances — Summer Saturdays
A beloved local tradition. Held at the Yosemite History Center in Wawona on summer Saturday evenings — check NPS for current dates and schedule.
